A cycling stay starts before the first pedal stroke. The bike has to arrive, the accommodation has to accept it and rentals or support must match the equipment and the trip you have planned. This guide gathers questions often scattered across messages: flights, transfers, sizing, workshops, storage and the journey home. It applies to road cycling camps and luggage-carrying trips alike, without presenting businesses as partners or promising services they have not confirmed.

01

Flights and bikes: confirm special baggage

Aena treats bicycles as special baggage and points travellers to airline conditions. Before purchasing, check acceptance, baggage booking, dimensions, weight and required packing for both flights. Keep confirmation with your flight reservation. For an electric bicycle or battery, ask explicitly about the applicable conditions rather than assuming the same arrangements. Decide where the bike will be assembled and where the case will be stored. For groups, count cases as well as people: total volume can determine the transfer vehicle and collection arrangements. Allow time for the actual baggage process instead of planning an immediate ride.

02

A transfer must accept the complete load

Tell the transport provider the number of travellers, assembled or packed bikes, approximate dimensions and other luggage. Request confirmation of protection and securing arrangements, the meeting point, waiting time and what happens if the flight is delayed. The word transfer does not establish bike capacity. Renfe's conditions differ by service and how the bike is presented, so check the actual ticket. For TRAM d’Alacant, consult the operator's current rules, planner and notices. Do not rely on public transport as a fallback without understanding its conditions and how to reach the station from your potential finishing point.

03

Rental: reserve a setup, not just a size

Alongside height and usual frame size, provide reference measurements and intended use. Ask about available geometry, gearing, pedals, bottle cages, lights and included repair equipment. For luggage-carrying bikes, confirm compatibility with bags or racks; for electric bikes, advertised range is not a guaranteed distance with your load. Request deposit, damage, collection, return and substitution terms. At handover, inspect the bike with the provider and record existing issues. Leave time to adjust the riding position and become familiar with controls before joining a group ride, rather than treating collection as a quick exchange of keys.

04

Workshops and support: distinguish repair, appointment and collection

If you need assembly after flying or an inspection before a camp, book an appointment and describe components, drivetrain, brakes and known issues. A workshop on a map does not establish immediate availability or compatible spare parts. Ask what the service includes and how additional work is authorised. For contracted roadside support, clarify the area covered, hours, companion transport and service limits; commercial collection is different from emergency assistance. Groups should nominate someone to retain contacts and agreements. We do not publish response times that no operator has committed to providing.

05

Accommodation: check the bike's entire journey indoors

Ask where bikes are stored, who can access the space and when you can enter or leave. If you need the bike in your room, obtain explicit permission and check lifts, stairs and cleaning rules. For groups, a small shared room may not fit every bike and case. Clarify permitted washing, clothing drying, early breakfast and luggage storage after checkout without assuming all hotels provide them. Consider companions' plans too. A location that avoids unnecessary journeys may add more comfort than an eye-catching facility you will barely use.

06

A complete enquiry prevents repeated messages

Prepare a summary with dates, base, participants, bike type and essential services. Separate rental, accommodation, guiding and transfers so you know who is responsible for each part. Request the total price, cancellation terms, service language and confirmation of inclusions. Do not send personal documents that are unnecessary for an initial enquiry. AlicanteResort can help you discover options and send a request, but availability, payment and the booking must be confirmed with the relevant provider. Before returning, review rental handback, dismantling, case and collection: the final part of a good stay deserves proper organisation too.

07

Clarify words that can mean different things

For an international booking, write full addresses and local times. Collection can mean you pick up a bicycle or a vehicle comes to collect you; an inspection can mean a basic check or workshop work with a different scope. Ask for the final message to state who does what, where and when. If your group uses several languages, keep one shared version of the summary. This simple step prevents two people interpreting the same short confirmation differently and discovering the mismatch on arrival.

Before your visit.

Are businesses mentioned in a guide partners?

Not merely because they appear in a source or editorial selection. We do not claim agreements that do not exist. Check the listing and ask the business directly about services, dates and conditions; an enquiry is not a contract.

What should I send when requesting a road bike?

Dates, size and reference measurements, pedals, desired gearing, experience and collection location. Request a confirmed model or acceptable substitute, included equipment and return terms. Sensitive identity documents are unnecessary in an initial message.

Does a transfer or workshop include support on every ride?

No. Assembly, workshop repair, transport and roadside assistance are different services. Confirm the ones you need in writing, including their scope and hours. A general description alone does not establish that a service has been booked.
