The Costa Blanca brings Mediterranean bases, agricultural valleys, mountain roads and inland villages into the same cycling holiday. Calp has a documented history of cycling training camps, while the province offers considerably more than one celebrated climb. This guide is for experienced road riders who want a well organised trip: choosing a base, recognising different route variants and solving practical arrangements before loading a ride onto a device. It is travel planning, not an individual training programme.

01

Choose your daily starting point, not just a room

Calp, Benissa and Altea put the focus on the Marina districts; Benidorm is a possible starting area for rides towards Guadalest and Tudons. Alcoy and Biar offer a different, inland emphasis. These bases are not interchangeable. Locate the actual accommodation entrance and examine the first and last kilometres of each proposed ride. A villa with a view can add a climb on the return. Groups should also compare breakfast arrangements, cycle storage and somewhere to assemble without obstructing other guests. The right starting point follows from the rides you actually intend to do.

02

Coll de Rates and Bèrnia: identify the actual variant

Calp Tourist Info publishes a combined Calp–Coll de Rates–Bèrnia ride and a brochure containing several road routes. The combined proposal is listed as 87.40 km with 1,823 m of accumulated ascent. Those figures describe that particular course, not every ride using the same climbs. Check its start, direction, file and the date of the official information. Adding another ascent or starting at a different property changes the day. Keep a shorter alternative that actually finishes at your base rather than depending on a connection improvised halfway round.

03

Widen the map without collecting climbs

The provincial catalogue includes road proposals associated with Dénia and Les Valls, El Campello and La Carrasqueta, Alcoy and Font Roja, Biar and Serra Mariola, or Torrevieja and La Pedrera. Use them to compare areas, rather than treating them as pieces that automatically connect. Ask which part provides the landscape you want and how much extra transfer it creates. A stay can focus on one district and leave another for a future visit. When travelling with non-cycling companions, nearby walks and cultural visits may matter more than collecting every famous climb.

04

The season also depends on each day's conditions

The popularity of winter camps does not guarantee suitable weather every week. Check forecasts and warnings for both the coast and the inland area you will cross: the starting town's forecast cannot describe every pass. Before departure, consider rain, wind, visibility, daylight and road incidents. Agree regrouping points and what happens if somebody turns back early. A lower alternative, a shorter outing or a day away from the bike can be a sensible travel decision for experienced athletes too. Keep enough flexibility in bookings to make those decisions without rushing.

05

Ask for services that match your actual bike

Tell a rental business your frame size, relevant fit measurements, pedals and gearing preference; obtain confirmation of the model or an acceptable substitute. If bringing your own bike, arrange assembly, inspection and box storage before travelling. Accommodation marketed to cyclists does not automatically include a permanent workshop. Confirm secure storage, access times, permitted washing and available tools. Advanced groups should establish languages, group size, contracted support and cancellation terms. Specific answers are more useful than a broad cycling label. AlicanteResort provides information and enquiries; each operator confirms its own services.

06

Make the stay work beyond the road

Before booking, sketch a week with main rides, alternatives and time to collect equipment, buy supplies or deal with a mechanical issue. This is not a training prescription: sporting workload belongs to your preparation and, where relevant, your coach. Keep confirmed contacts, delivery addresses and transport conditions together. With companions, arrange a meal or visit at a realistic time instead of promising arrival from average speed alone. Make the final day compatible with packing and the airport transfer. An extra ride is rarely worth undermining a carefully arranged journey home.

07

Distinguish roads from hiking when searching for Bèrnia

A mountain name can return routes for very different activities. The walking circuit through the Forat de Bèrnia is not the road cycling route described here. When sharing files with your group, state the activity, variant and starting point rather than forwarding a link with a similar name. Check that everybody has the same version before setting out. That small step prevents a broad search from quietly changing the agreed route, especially when several people have independently collected recommendations.

Before your visit.

Is this for professionals or only beginners?

It is aimed at experienced riders, including people organising a camp. It helps with bases, variants and services; it does not certify coaches, prescribe training intensity or promise closed roads. Use your own qualified team for sporting objectives.

Can I download an AlicanteResort GPX?

We do not publish an invented track. Consult the linked municipal route and check that its file matches your chosen variant. Inclusion in a catalogue does not replace checking current conditions, restrictions or recent changes.

Must I stay in Calp to ride Coll de Rates?

Not necessarily. Compare the entire ride from each property, including connecting roads and the return, rather than measuring only proximity to the climb. Select a base around the whole group's riding and practical needs.
