The La Mata and Torrevieja lagoons add a wetland landscape to a stay in the southern Costa Blanca. Salt production, vegetation and birds reveal another side of Vega Baja beyond its beaches. A visit might focus on a marked walk, time at an observation point or understanding the surroundings through the visitor centre, without making the colour of the water the only reason to go.
Two lagoons, one landscape to understand
The park contains two lagoons connected with salt production and different habitats around the water. It extends across Torrevieja, Guardamar del Segura, Los Montesinos and Rojales. Locate your chosen access point on a map: the park is not a single entrance or a continuous walk around every shoreline.
Make time to observe
The La Mata visitor centre and official birdwatching information help you prepare itineraries and observation stops. Check opening arrangements and current options. Bringing binoculars and pausing quietly can add more to the visit than covering extra distance; visible species vary and no particular sighting is promised.
Enjoy the wetland from its paths
