Xàbia's coast changes character between beaches, gravel, rock and headlands. Choosing a cove takes more than an attractive picture: consider how to get there, where to enter the water and what you will do if access or sea conditions are unsuitable.
Each cove has its own character
The municipal website lists Granadella, Cala Blanca, Sardinera and Barraca or Portitxol among its beaches. Portitxol is described as a gravel, pebble and rocky cove between Cap Prim and Cap Negre. Do not expect an uninterrupted sandy entrance: check the terrain of your chosen cove and bring footwear that makes walking comfortable.

Xàbia publishes dedicated access information for Granadella and Barraca-Portitxol, including vehicle and parking controls during certain periods. Arrangements can change with the season and occupancy. Read the municipal notice before leaving and follow signs on the day. Previous seasons' prices, timetables or transport services should not be treated as current, and parking is not guaranteed.
Enjoy the water close to shore
For swimming or looking beneath the surface with a mask, prioritise permitted areas and conditions suited to your experience. Respect marker buoys and boat traffic; a sheltered-looking photograph does not guarantee calm water. If entering the sea is unsuitable, choose a permitted walk or a visit to town instead of forcing the original plan.

No. Check current municipal information and access-control signs before heading to a cove.
Are all the coves sandy?
No. Some have rock, gravel and pebbles, including Portitxol. Read the individual beach descriptions before choosing.
